The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today directed a petitioner, who sought a direction to stay the release of the Dhanush-starrer “Anegan”, to approach the Censor Board and seek relief.

The petition was dismissed as withdrawn by Justice B.Rajendran who said the prayer sought by the petitioner could not be entertained by the court as a writ petition.

The petitioner S.Mariselvam, President of the ‘Thirukurippu Thonda Nayanar Maha Sabhai,’

(Association for the Washerman Community), said he saw the trailer of the movie and alleged that Vannar (Washerman) community woman were being exhibited in a bad light.

The Central Board of Film Certification should have deleted such portions, the petitioner said. He had also sent a legal notice to the Board, asking them to delete such portions but there was no action, the petitioner said.

Meanwhile, the film is due for release on February 13 and hence the court should stay its release till the objectionable portions were removed, the petitioner submitted.
